Spring: Rising Up Out of Winter’s Dream

Every year we witness the cycles of growth and decay through which life on earth expresses its self and every year we excitedly experience the inner surge of rising energy as new dreams blossom within our own consciousness. Just as the sap rises and falls, so do we feel the natural ebb and flow of spring energy deep in our own bones. Our own inner rhythm enlivens us once more with the life generating vital forces that are needed for new life to erupt. As human beings we are destined to feel Spring’s fever pulsing within our own systems stirring our creative energy out of its long hibernation.

Deep down in the frozen soil a new magic has begun as the earth prepares to germinate new life. As spring eases into our lives and begins to mature fully into longer days, budding flowers and sprouting greenery everywhere remind us to bear in mind the careful preparations that will be needed for the successful growth of new life during the next several months. This is the season for conceptualizing. We may now effectively flip the ‘what–if’ possibilities over in our minds and consider the consequences of our intentions. But remember this is all still happening internally, in the mind and in the heart.

Waking Up

In spring we are reborn. The push is on for letting go of the old and allowing a new fertile season to take hold in our lives. Resurrection is at hand. Be clear on what you wish to bring back in to your life. Patterns are stubborn; they survive for the sake of themselves. They can be powerful assistants to our dreams and they can also be the destroyers. It is your choice how you allow them to hold power into this new year of possibility. Be conscious of what you truly wish to empower and see prosper. Ensure you have the proper conditions in place to support the dreams you are building.

It is time to stretch and yawn, release the toxins of the long night of winter and move toward the morning light of spring. With the passing of the Spring Equinox we become quickly aware of the lengthening daylight hours. Encouraged by the sunshine and longer days we are eager to bring our visions out of the nebulous dream state and into reality. But dreams are not strong enough to survive on their own in the harsh dualism of reality. They need to be coaxed along with proper attention and care to details.

Get Gently Physical!

Spring is the time to begin a walking, yoga, or other movement program if you haven’t already done so. Be aware of your changing health patterns. Are you providing yourself with enough fuel to move into a new season? The demands of spring are different from those of winter. You need more high energy foods and less comfort food. It’s time to peel back the layers of blankets and waddling to be able to move about more freely. Encourage your inner need to get moving but do it sensibly. Build a meditation practice into your new movement plans. This will help ensure that your foundations are strong enough before you try to build dream mansions. All mansions will fall if the underlying intentions aren’t strong enough to support them. Take the time to know your true heart and mind.

Hold your dream for your life in your mind’s eye as a holographic model; see the world as a surging place of dynamic energy ready to be recreated into the world of your choice.

Transcending Fear ~ Dancing Your Heart’s Song

We are sitting today at the threshold of unprecedented growth. Everything in the world as we know it to be is up to be transformed and transcended. Collectively we have entered the chrysalis stage of human development. At this point anything is possible. As we surrender our selves to this stage of transformation we must release the fear of no longer being as we formerly knew our selves to be. All of our ego identifications and ideals that belonged to our caterpillar selves must be surrendered to the new greater whole…and this feels risky.

Negotiating the Risk Factor

In actuality though, the risk is minimal. There is no real risk in evolution. In evolution things simply, almost imperceptibly, move to the next step. We either try to delay the process of evolution by focusing on what was and continue to uphold those old ideas or we learn to release our ego attachments and set our sights forward to the unknown potential of what is to come. It becomes a matter of looking forward or looking backwards, or more precisely, of looking outwards compared to looking deeply inwards. We tend to equate unknown with dangerous but this is only a projection of fear.

A very useful acronym for F.E.A.R is False. Experience. Appearing. Real. The experience is deemed false simply and truthfully because it hasn’t happened yet, so we actually project an outcome forward based on a negative past experience, which we assume makes it real because it happened a certain way in the past. Unfortunately, the error in the equation is that it doesn’t take into consideration all the awareness, skill and knowledge that has been learned between the old experience and the current time. All of these unacknowledged experiences have the power to create a completely new outcome. By laying the old expectation over the new possibility we create a future that mimics the patterns of the past – thereby ‘proving’ our fear to be valid. When we learn to view the future as a new adventure we get to co-create an entirely new possibility for ourselves.

A new mantra to use in place of the old acronym is Forgive. Everything. As. Required. Using this mantra whenever we feel the old emotional F.E.A.R. grab hold of our bodies and minds will serve to ‘re-mind’ us to leave the past in the past, forgive unconditionally what ever it is in us that wants to hold on to the past, and prompt us to let go without attachment for our highest good. Through forgiveness we may gratefully acknowledge the small part of us that is unsure, and yet in the same breath we can energize the visionary part of us that wants to move boldly forward toward the unknown.

Taking a Leap of Faith

In co-creation we solicit the assistance of the Divine Creative, the one with the plan. And I don’t mean the one being – I mean the one consciousness of which we are all part. In One consciousness we move into our perfect placement in the holistic holographic blueprint for humanity’s ever evolving nature. In Oneness, I simply do my part while everyone does his/her part. Ego and self-righteousness disappears in the perfection of the whole dynamic. While this is certainly happening already to a degree, the overall plan is currently reflecting distortions caused by individual attachments, control issues and fears. Through surrender to our mutual perfection we allow minute variations to occur which more accurately tune us into the right place, right time scenarios. The trick lies in being able to recognize the pivotal synergistic opportunities without projecting egotistical needs over top. To establish this clarity of intuition vs ego we need to make friends with our hearts. Love offers us the opposite vibration to fear.

The heart pulses out a frequency that is connected to and resonates with the sacred pulse of the universe and our earth. The Base Resonant frequency of Earth is our touchstone of reality that serves to keep us entrained in the harmonious working of all things great and small within our Universe. By releasing our minds from fear we are able to ‘keep up to speed’ with the quickening vibrational frequency of the Sacred Circuit of Universe>Earth>Heart>Cells. As our bodies are creating new cells by the second we allow our cellular construction to be built-in harmony with all that is; in new progressive programming instead of the old worn out tired and dis-eased programming of the past.

Stirrings of Light and Love

So here we sit, looking forward to a new day, or fearing the collapse of the old day. Truly this is a very apt comparison. We sit in the in between time between dark and light, we are in the dusk/dawn time of a new era. One era day is ending while a new one is simultaneously beginning. Trying to hold on to yesterday won’t help us and in fact puts us in a very surreal place of non-relevance. By keeping our attention on a day that has passed we cease being able to put our energies where they can be of assistance to the transition ahead. We lock ourselves into repetitive patterns, gradually becoming less and less effective; more and more jammed up, less and less able to hold the light of the new frequencies of the new era being birthed.

We are by nature visionary, and if you have been paying attention to your heart – even in the slightest, you’ll have noticed that in recent months you have been feeling somewhat dissatisfied (if not greatly frustrated) to be doing the same old same old. You are yearning for a new expression. Deep inside you are feeling the push/pull of something truly great wanting to come forward from within. A sacred resonance is being activated and you are at this point in the transformation only half-heartedly listening to your truth calling you forward. Your body, however, is desperately wanting to heed the insistent whisperings.

By attuning all of your attention to your heart you will begin to hear the transmissions of universal energy clearer and clearer. You will begin to move your body to dance with the rhythms of the universe. You will automatically be able to step into the right place and right timing to fill the position that is perfect. It may feel like a leap of faith when in truth it is only a step in the dance; the dance of your own creation for the highest good of all.

The Music of the Spheres

One of the things that really turn me on in life is music. Not just the listening to it part, but the whole idea of it. It’s a fantastic concept to me that there are people out there who can take their thoughts, their emotions, their experiences and translate them into songs that allow others to resonate with them. Amazing.

And I don’t care what the genre is or the time period it comes from either, it’s all incredible. There is absolutely no way for me to sit still if there is a song in the air. Everyone in my family; parents, siblings, and all the children love music. We all dance, we all sing (some of us brilliantly, some of us badly, but all loudly!) and we all listen to it whenever we can. It is the backdrop to every gathering. But that’s the thing with music. It amplifies the backdrop rhythm of the energy of life back to us so that even the densest of us can get connected.

Music surrounds us, permeates us and aligns us with all that is harmonious in the universe.  When I first heard the phrase “the music of the spheres” I was instantly transported out of my mind into the workings of the universe. I can’t adequately describe the awareness that moved through me. I could ‘hear’ the sound of the planets turning in space, like a ginormous turbine, slowly pulsing the vibrations of life throughout the universe(s), and then I became aware of  ‘feeling’ the end result of those pulsations with the breezes blowing through the trees and in the rhythm of my own heart. I felt my heart open and receive the vibe flooding my soul with joy and awe!

In the moment that I heard that phrase I became instantly aware of my interconnectedness with all of life in our universe, I knew that I was integral to the cause and effect system that governs our dualistic expression of life on earth, just as our sun is. Nothing is too small, or too insignificant to cause effect. Every living species, every thought, every emotion, every giggle and every tear creates a ripple of vibration that wiggles its’ way out into the universe, attracts to similar vibrations,  is caught up in the mass vibration and eventually results in the turning of the planets which in turn cause the vibrations, re-energized and re-calibrated with more potential to slowly find their way back to earth, consciousness and who knows where else.

With music we are entrained to a vast pulsation that connects us to all life and all symbiotic expressions. The power of concert is to simultaneously connect us to like-minded hearts and souls. When we listen to a radio station and sing or tap along with a song we simultaneously energetically connect to all the other vibrations of the voices singing and tapping along with the same song in that same moment. And I can get even bigger than that! Vibrations move for an infinite amount of time, as we sing and play our favorite music we connect to all the times those pieces have been played, revitalizing those rhythms continuously.

The most popular songs through the ages are the ones that make us feel love, hope, joy, passion, wonder and gratitude for they are the songs that celebrate the triumphs of man, the successes, the accomplishments and the history of man’s journey. The anthems, the hymns, the love songs;  literally they are what makes the world go round! They stimulate the compassionate nature of our hearts and create a resonance of energy that causes life to continue and expand. Through song we are unified throughout time with all generations. Through music we learn to identify and conquer all that is dissonant and disharmonious to the continuation of life.

So keep on singing folks – life depends on it!

Hunkering Down in Big Winds of Change

Wow. This wind makes me nuts.

I had half a dozen phone calls from people this morning complaining of feeling strangely unsettled and unable to focus. They didn’t think to connect their feelings with the energy of the wind.

There are certain winds that make me crazy. What we’ve got blowing through Ontario today is one of the worst for me. I get feeling edgy, antsy, and nervous. My thoughts flit about in my head and my teeth chatter. My finger tips and toes freeze no matter how warm the wind or day actually is and my spine feels cold and stressed. So here I am hunkering down in my Reiki room trying to stay out of the direct path of the wind. All gardening plans for me today are gone!

I’m tucked safely inside, sheltered completely from the wind and yet I can still feel it. The energy of it can’t be stopped. And as uncomfortable as I am, I am also grateful. I know that when the big winds blow there are big changes afoot. And that’s a good thing! You can’t have growth without clearing away the old energy. The wind, like the other elements are extremely useful for shifting possibility. The wind is the element of air in action, air represents our minds, our thinking, our thoughts. Windy air whistling through our brains clears our thoughts, changes our attachments, brings us to new perspectives.

The best thing to do when the wind is whipping you around is to get grounded, breathe really deeply, and try not to catch the thoughts as they blow around in your brain. Let them be until the wind stops. Trying to anchor down plans, pin down ideas, or capture thoughts during the big winds is like trying to catch Dandelion seeds before they land and take root. Seize the opportunity to kiss goodbye to things that no longer serve you and let them blow right out of your life. When the mind isn’t attached to ideas amazing things can happen. When the wind finally stops you’ll find that what bothered you before has less hold on you. You’ll be refreshed with new ideas and hopeful for the future.

The wind can also blow some energy into something you want to fire up; something (someone) you feel passion for – but be careful, you’re liable to burn down the whole neighborhood!

Reiki; old fashioned, incomplete or just perfect?

The other day I heard a Reiki Master say that in his opinion Reiki was old fashioned and outdated…interesting.

I was dumb-founded. How can Reiki – Universal Life Force energy be old fashioned and outdated? I realize I can be a pretty literal person so I tried to comprehend how else this may have been intended.

Reiki as energy cannot be outdated. It is after all universal life force energy, it is a constantly co-created emanation of energy grounded in all life systems of our universe. Reiki as a modality could perhaps be outdated but only in context of the relationship the student of Reiki has with the practice of it, which makes it the responsibility of the student not the modality itself. I certainly have never experienced Reiki to be anything but currently applicable and relevant furthermore I believe that the truest power of Reiki is yet to be discovered as scientists learn more about the nature of energy from a quantum perspective. I don’t think we have even scratched the surface of it’s potential yet!

I’m involved in many chat groups on the internet that discuss Reiki healing and possibility. I’m seeing that Reiki practitioners in general have very personalized and limited perspectives of what Reiki is and can do. As usual people spread their personal fear garnished ideas around demonstrating how little faith they actually have in the power of the dynamic that is universal life force energy. It is so weird to me how many practitioners have tried to alter reiki with new symbols and theories and techniques when it is so powerfully and simply effective as it is.

Usui, the japanese metaphysician that developed this modality of healing brought to us an awareness that we have the opportunity to work with the energy that we are immersed in to create a possibility for peace, harmony and happiness. He became enlightened to this possibility after an extended meditation retreat where he apparently determined to release all his preconceived ideas of life in order to experience another way. Legend says he was willing to die if necessary.

Maybe I’m an old fashioned kind o’gal but I’m not gullible, niave, or easily bamboozled and I think Reiki is very cool. Reiki fits perfectly with well established metaphysical philosophies, evolving quantum theories, natural laws of our universe, sound spiritual practices (like meditation) and all health issues of modern man. Remember I’m talking about original Usui Reiki…The precepts of Reiki are, I admit, pretty old fashioned;

“Just for today do not anger, do not worry, honour your parents, teachers, and elders, earn your living honestly and show gratitude for all living things.”

But you know, all things considered, it’s a pretty honourable code of ethics to live by. As far as the rest of it I would suggest that before you decide Reiki is out dated – look perhaps to your own ego and it’s ideas. Reiki Is…it really doesn’t need your thoughts and perceptions of understanding to work, in fact try instead surrendering to Reiki, get out of the way, stay present and watch the magic begin! Reiki is precise and perfect every time. What do you think? Let me know.

Emotional Responsibility

In the healing business you can expect to hear a ton of stories about the pain, suffering and abuse people endure. It’s a vital part of the healing process for people to share their stories and release repressed and suppressed emotions out of their bodies and energy fields . Many alternative and complementary modalities are based on doing precisely just that; releasing repressed emotions out of the body. Held in emotions of shame, anger, grief, worry, fear can play havoc on a body’s immune system and eventually lead to a whole host of physical problems. And although it is shocking to hear some of the outrageous things people are capable of perpetrating against one another it never fails to amaze me how easily and willing we are to hurt someone else. It’s not just the act, but the desire to cause hurt comes so easily to so many people.

It seems to be human nature that when we hurt we need and want others to feel the same pain. It’s that old adage: Misery loves company. But bottom line it is grossly unfair and spiritually irresponsible to draw others into our negative emotion cycles. We don’t have the right to make others miserable because we don’t want or can’t find the way to resolve our own emotional pain. If your intention is to heal your wounds and you are willing to trust another to guide you back to the land of the positive then share as honestly and as openly as you can. But if all you really want is to feel validated in your misery and insist on recruiting sympathies against the person you are mad at you are abusing your confidant. Of course in that moment you don’t really get how abusive it is, all you’re focused on, in that moment, is the need to spread the grief. Wallowing in pain however is a dead end street. It gets you nowhere. And you will find that eventually you will be standing nowhere all alone!

Depression is one thing, but spinning in a bad mood and trying to take every one else down with you is another. We have a moral and ethical responsibility to others, especially the ones we love, to try to stay as positive as possible. I don’t mean being cheerful when you feel angry, worried and confused. Using negative words, being argumentative, picking fights, goading others into being nasty, demeaning others just to vent your aggravation is cruel and harmful for all parties concerned or bitterly trying to convince others to gang up on another. We live in an over stressed society, to add to another’s stress level is incouragable. We need to try harder to be genuinely nice to people. They deserve it. Strangers we meet out on the street don’t deserve to be treated with rudeness, disrespect or aggressive bad behaviour no matter how they treat us. Be the bigger person! We need to treat others with kindness, respect and friendliness.

Another old saying is ‘if you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all’ but let’s face it, how can you find justice without complaint? So if you are truly looking for justice ask yourself this; ‘can this person I’m talking to help me understand what’s going on and am I truly looking for resolution – or am I just bitching to anyone who is too polite to hang up the phone or walk away from me while I rant?’ Words and emotions have energy. We use them to create effect in other people. Before you go shooting off your mouth hold some awareness about the power you are wielding. Loose tongues cut deeply – and in the end it will be you that falls with greatest pain.

Just Let Go and Jump!

I am so excited about Spring! I feel creative, productive, and just plain happy! And you know why? I practiced what I preach. That makes me feel good too!

Last year was a very emotionally difficult year. It felt like everything I believed in, from philosophy to friendships was being stripped away from me. Everything about my life came under scrutiny and everything was subject to being tossed out. I moved to Campbellford in 1999 and quickly created a strong community among the many like minded people here. I developed a few very special friendships, was able to keep growing in my work and was able to teach to many fine eager students. For 10 years my family thrived and grew strong; each successful in their own right. Everything was going well until suddenly it wasn’t. Truth is, it wasn’t sudden at all! There was a growing malcontent and disorder arising in my world which I didn’t know how to curb. I sensed it, I tried to calm it, I engaged and fought with it, and I even tried to ignore it. But I knew better. The ship was going down and I didn’t really understand why. So I just tried to save things, and kept going like normal. When we try to hold on too long, trying to ignore the pain, and not stand up for ourselves it starts to hurt really bad; emotionally, mentally and physically!

In the end I could only do what I know how to do. I had to let go! And I mean of everything! By the end I didn’t have the faintest clue what to save and what not to save so I had to throw it all to the wind. I was willing to let anything and everything go that had to in order to stop the pain and the sadness, from my marriage, to my kids, to my home, to my friends, to my work, to my writing, to my philosophies, in short everything that I had built my identity around in my whole life. I didn’t know what all needed to be released, I just knew that anything that was not for my highest good had to go. So layer by layer, piece by piece, I lessened my need to control, my need to be loved, my need to be nurtured, my need to be understood, my need to be right, my need to know, my need to be the teacher-healer extraordinaire, my need to save and make everything better and on and on…where ever I could identify a personal need I worked to lessen my attachment to it.

Systematically, one by one, I felt aspects of my life fall away, friends I had cared deeply for, aquaintances, workshops, pass times, interests, and beliefs. Worst of all was all my creativity with my writing dried up. And things got very quiet. The drama stopped. And things stayed quiet for a long time. I had no creative energy, no spark, no fire, I started playing games online…then one day I noticed I also didn’t have any pain anymore. Slowly I became aware of what wasn’t changing; my family, my life philosophies, my work had found a new depth and a renewed sense of purpose. Out of the blue I started writing again…better than before!

Today I am renewed! Charged with the vital life force energy of Spring! I am driven in my calling, loved by people I love, people I respect and admire! My home is my haven…for now!

10 Years ago I took a leap of faith when we moved to a small town 3 hours away from anyone I knew to a future I couldn’t imagine. It worked! Today I am grateful that I Let go! This is the 4th time in my life I have jumped – no bungie cord or anything. Each time I jump I land in a better place than where I was. Each time letting go has made room for so many blessings, so many new people, so many opportunities, and so much joy. So go ahead let go and jump! It will only hurt for a minute – in the grand scheme of things! I highly recommend it!!
