The Music of the Spheres

One of the things that really turn me on in life is music. Not just the listening to it part, but the whole idea of it. It’s a fantastic concept to me that there are people out there who can take their thoughts, their emotions, their experiences and translate them into songs that allow others to resonate with them. Amazing.

And I don’t care what the genre is or the time period it comes from either, it’s all incredible. There is absolutely no way for me to sit still if there is a song in the air. Everyone in my family; parents, siblings, and all the children love music. We all dance, we all sing (some of us brilliantly, some of us badly, but all loudly!) and we all listen to it whenever we can. It is the backdrop to every gathering. But that’s the thing with music. It amplifies the backdrop rhythm of the energy of life back to us so that even the densest of us can get connected.

Music surrounds us, permeates us and aligns us with all that is harmonious in the universe.  When I first heard the phrase “the music of the spheres” I was instantly transported out of my mind into the workings of the universe. I can’t adequately describe the awareness that moved through me. I could ‘hear’ the sound of the planets turning in space, like a ginormous turbine, slowly pulsing the vibrations of life throughout the universe(s), and then I became aware of  ‘feeling’ the end result of those pulsations with the breezes blowing through the trees and in the rhythm of my own heart. I felt my heart open and receive the vibe flooding my soul with joy and awe!

In the moment that I heard that phrase I became instantly aware of my interconnectedness with all of life in our universe, I knew that I was integral to the cause and effect system that governs our dualistic expression of life on earth, just as our sun is. Nothing is too small, or too insignificant to cause effect. Every living species, every thought, every emotion, every giggle and every tear creates a ripple of vibration that wiggles its’ way out into the universe, attracts to similar vibrations,  is caught up in the mass vibration and eventually results in the turning of the planets which in turn cause the vibrations, re-energized and re-calibrated with more potential to slowly find their way back to earth, consciousness and who knows where else.

With music we are entrained to a vast pulsation that connects us to all life and all symbiotic expressions. The power of concert is to simultaneously connect us to like-minded hearts and souls. When we listen to a radio station and sing or tap along with a song we simultaneously energetically connect to all the other vibrations of the voices singing and tapping along with the same song in that same moment. And I can get even bigger than that! Vibrations move for an infinite amount of time, as we sing and play our favorite music we connect to all the times those pieces have been played, revitalizing those rhythms continuously.

The most popular songs through the ages are the ones that make us feel love, hope, joy, passion, wonder and gratitude for they are the songs that celebrate the triumphs of man, the successes, the accomplishments and the history of man’s journey. The anthems, the hymns, the love songs;  literally they are what makes the world go round! They stimulate the compassionate nature of our hearts and create a resonance of energy that causes life to continue and expand. Through song we are unified throughout time with all generations. Through music we learn to identify and conquer all that is dissonant and disharmonious to the continuation of life.

So keep on singing folks – life depends on it!

Living Without Excuses; Dare to Be YOU!

I realized one day that the people I admire the most are the ones that live their lives without excuses. They are respectful,     positive minded, energetic, kind people and the reason is simple; they aren’t trying to prove anything to anyone. They know who they are and they just go about living their lives doing what they do.

It is ingrained in us to look and ask for approval. As children we learn that good behavior is rewarded with praise of some sort and it feels better than being criticized. We also learn that one easy trick to avoiding criticism is to make up a story that seemingly excuses our actions. As we grow we not only become adept at making excuses to others and ourselves but also come to expect and accept them in our daily dealings with others. We become unaccountable for our thoughts and actions, in effect leading double lives.

A few years ago I saw Marianne Williamson speak. She’s a powerful speaker with a strong belief in her message. She spoke on her book “A Return to Love”. Often when speakers talk about love and peace they approach the subject with a sugar-coated countenance. Not Ms. Williamson! She delivered all the passion, power, determination and strength that I know love delivers to my heart. She never once apologized for her beliefs or her commitments. She stood up for herself and made herself accountable for her message and accountable in her life.

Most of the people I see as clients have lost their compass in life. They don’t know how to step forward, confused in their own minds they are often afraid of hurting others and stepping on other peoples’ toes. In trying to establish value in their lives they do more and more for others, further compromising themselves with every step they take. Eventually because they have allowed so many others to take up precious space in their minds they find themselves crowded to death with no room left to move. Unable to make their own choices without stepping on someone else’s toes they start apologizing for offending, for hurting, for questioning, even for being themselves. Depression is the only end result as we slowly come to realize that we are in danger of losing our selves.

We need to each claim ourselves back from the land of the excuses. Live boldly. Feel your own two legs under you and see them marching to the beat of your own drum. We each came here to live our own lives, our own way, in our own rhythm, so don’t make excuses for your life choices. Just live your life bravely with intention. Dare to be you!

A New Leaf

There comes a time when we have to make changes. I know making changes is difficult. It is the human way to become attached – to everything. But as we learn, as we grow, it is important to portray ourselves on the outside in ways that reflect the changes we are going through on the inside. My friends and clients that have known me for many years of my business journey tease me about the way my business image keeps changing every few years. It’s true…at least on the surface. Changing is what my business is all about. Whether it’s with the Reiki, the Metaphysics Workshops, the Living Well Seminars, or my articles, it’s all about helping people stimulate, create, and maintain the changes they want to manifest in their lives. Likewise for myself.

We’re all looking for happiness and peace of mind. What that means is different for each one of us. How that looks on the outside may be  different but in the end we all want the same things; we want to be heard, we want to matter, and we want to be accepted. These elements are the root of all the changes we ever try to implement in our lives. They are the essence of all that it means to be human. It is perhaps even the common purpose that binds us and in the same moment propels the evolution of humanity forward.

Gregg Braden identified the three common fears of mankind to be i) a fear of surrender, ii) a fear of loss of self-worth, and iii) a fear of abandonment. We spend our lives doing what we need to do to try to overcome these fears. We strive to leave a mark in this world that survives our death.

Change is an interesting illusion of our minds. I’m not sure that we ever really change in our core. I believe we are what we are. I also believe that we don’t always know what we are and can spend a lifetime trying to find out. We can get so side tracked in life that we can head off on a path at a very early age that can leave us lost for a long time. To make sense out of a life we feel disconnected from we buy into and build up all the trappings that make us appear to be solid citizens. Eventually that solid looking box begins to crack and disintegrate leaving us confused, angry and afraid if we continue trying to hold on to it.

Everything in our world is impermanent. Everything material and physical changes. Our physical body will also change and die. But spirit lives on. I’m not talking about reincarnation here. I’m talking about the spirit of humanity, the spirit of the Divine Principle, the spirit of God. Our essential purpose is to live that spirit as fully as possible within the expression we are.

And so we change, everyday, trying to be more fully what we are. As the days go by we either choose to do things differently, letting go of everything that no longer fits or we choose to hold on tighter, trying to create a reality that would fool the best of them. It is the heart that will guide you towards the changes you want, and your mind will decide if you do or don’t. If there is disharmony between the heart and mind you will stay locked in a battle that will seep toxicity into all areas of your life. Change doesn’t have to be cruel or harsh. If we decide to make changes freely and easily, consulting with our heart and mind, we can make smaller, incremental changes that reflect our truth, stimulate our passion and empower our presence in the world.

My new business logo and image are reflective of a new lighter, brighter sense of myself and my work. The truth is I’m all about growth, all about change, all about turning a New Leaf! More than anything though I am committed to doing what I have to do to build a harmonious relationship between my heart and my mind so all of me can go peacefully in one direction.
