The Most Sacred Spot on Earth Lies Within

You’ve come to earth, to this universe to learn teachings that are only available here. Specifically, you have come to learn how to manage the power plays that are created in a dynamic of opposite energies. You sit here on our little emerald planet as either male or female and hold a particular perspective that ultimately enables you to behave one way over another. You are here to learn about freedom of choice, personal authenticity and the power of love, all while living in a sea of consciousness that is created by others doing the exactly the same thing. It is boggling to live even the simplest life.

In Quantum theory we are coming to understand that while on a subatomic level we all merge as one flowing expression of consciousness, in our dense physical world we are separate individuated beings. Often this comes right down to one against the other. Conflict, difficulty, power struggle are part of the daily program that makes us deal with others while we try to express our own truth. Inevitably we lose a degree of self-awareness and personal power.

We’re all going somewhere…though unfortunately most of us don’t know where. We grow up doing all that is expected of us and may even reach a moderate level of success. However, unless we have somehow become magically heart-fully and mindfully engaged in those building years, regardless of the success we experience, life can feel empty and void of meaning. We strike out searching for ways to touch something or to be touched by something meaningful.

The Journey Inward

For most people it begins with a lonely broken heart. A quest for true love usually ignites a need to get moving. The heart is a transmitter receiver with a built-in radar system always looking to receive a signal back from a resonant source. The mind inherently looks for problems to solve, to be useful and to improve the condition of humanity. The physical body yearns for health and comfort. The search can be lonely because it truly is an individual journey but if we open to our true world we see that we are not alone and that there are others wandering and searching for the same things we are. At least then we see that we can have companionship on our journey; like-minded adventures also striking out on a new path. Bravely we get to travel a road of discovery with others and share our experiences and teachings. It becomes easier. And so we learn we can embark on a metaphysical trek to find our whole complete selves with heart-minded consciousness in good company. We will discover our truest power, our deepest understanding of ourselves.

The first great spiritual truth is that all the answers, all the power and all the peace you desire lie within.  Our highest potential is to learn to communicate truly with your highest self, listen with real intuitive wisdom and find peaceful resilience and power deep within your own soul! The journey inward is littered with obstacles and “good reasons” to let sleeping dogs lie and they are stubbornly obstinate. Eventually you will learn to recognize the persistent obstacles that stand in your way and the tools you already have to get them out of your way. In time you will capture and lead the true, strong and beautiful life you came here to live!

Spring: Rising Up Out of Winter’s Dream

Every year we witness the cycles of growth and decay through which life on earth expresses its self and every year we excitedly experience the inner surge of rising energy as new dreams blossom within our own consciousness. Just as the sap rises and falls, so do we feel the natural ebb and flow of spring energy deep in our own bones. Our own inner rhythm enlivens us once more with the life generating vital forces that are needed for new life to erupt. As human beings we are destined to feel Spring’s fever pulsing within our own systems stirring our creative energy out of its long hibernation.

Deep down in the frozen soil a new magic has begun as the earth prepares to germinate new life. As spring eases into our lives and begins to mature fully into longer days, budding flowers and sprouting greenery everywhere remind us to bear in mind the careful preparations that will be needed for the successful growth of new life during the next several months. This is the season for conceptualizing. We may now effectively flip the ‘what–if’ possibilities over in our minds and consider the consequences of our intentions. But remember this is all still happening internally, in the mind and in the heart.

Waking Up

In spring we are reborn. The push is on for letting go of the old and allowing a new fertile season to take hold in our lives. Resurrection is at hand. Be clear on what you wish to bring back in to your life. Patterns are stubborn; they survive for the sake of themselves. They can be powerful assistants to our dreams and they can also be the destroyers. It is your choice how you allow them to hold power into this new year of possibility. Be conscious of what you truly wish to empower and see prosper. Ensure you have the proper conditions in place to support the dreams you are building.

It is time to stretch and yawn, release the toxins of the long night of winter and move toward the morning light of spring. With the passing of the Spring Equinox we become quickly aware of the lengthening daylight hours. Encouraged by the sunshine and longer days we are eager to bring our visions out of the nebulous dream state and into reality. But dreams are not strong enough to survive on their own in the harsh dualism of reality. They need to be coaxed along with proper attention and care to details.

Get Gently Physical!

Spring is the time to begin a walking, yoga, or other movement program if you haven’t already done so. Be aware of your changing health patterns. Are you providing yourself with enough fuel to move into a new season? The demands of spring are different from those of winter. You need more high energy foods and less comfort food. It’s time to peel back the layers of blankets and waddling to be able to move about more freely. Encourage your inner need to get moving but do it sensibly. Build a meditation practice into your new movement plans. This will help ensure that your foundations are strong enough before you try to build dream mansions. All mansions will fall if the underlying intentions aren’t strong enough to support them. Take the time to know your true heart and mind.

Hold your dream for your life in your mind’s eye as a holographic model; see the world as a surging place of dynamic energy ready to be recreated into the world of your choice.

Beating Stress

Beating Stress While Creating A New Balance

Life is crazy busy. It can be a real juggling act just trying to keep things floating along relatively smoothly but sometimes it’s impossible! Sometimes it seems that no matter how you try to plan and try to stay organized there’s just no way and before you know it you’re chasing your tail, burning the candle from both ends, and feeling defeated before you even got out of the gate. That balance beam you are usually walking on suddenly turned into a high wire act without a safety net. Suddenly you find yourself in a situation that is possibly dangerous, probably not worth it, and definitely stressful. Stress is the greatest side effect of trying to maintain balance in our hectic lives. Stress is the major cause of illness, breakdowns, and ultimate failure in our lives today.

The problem though, is this; people don’t understand balance and don’t value harmony enough in our modern-day life. There are 3 main obstacles to achieving balance.

* Trying to please too many other people; Learn to say ‘no’. It’s nice to receive recognition from others but once we start this game of looking after others’ needs we will soon find that praise doesn’t cover it when we are sadly falling behind in our own duties and chores and struggling to catch up. Find the value for yourself in all that you do before you do it or just say no.
  * Prioritizing; letting the tail wag the dog. Running around putting out fires, dealing with the wrong things first, letting others determine what needs to be done in a day will leave you exhausted before you even get started. Make a list of 6 things that you must achieve in a day, start at the top and plow through them until they are finished. You will realize a sense of personal accomplishment and feel stronger to take on the other tasks that are of less priority but are important to your sense of well-being. Take charge of your life and learn to be the dog wagging his tail.
* Not honoring personal need requirements; relinquishing down time, i.e. naps, meditations, massages, etc. Somehow we have learned as a culture that it is too selfish to look after your needs first. You are the center of your universe, which does not mean that if you sit down for 5 minutes your world will collapse. It means that you get to choose to take care of you too.

When we don’t keep these three things in perspective we can lose sight of our selves and our health very quickly. When we become exhausted we work less efficiently, less effectively, we lose our good humor, we become pessimistic, and eventually, gradually start causing pain and discomfort in our lives. Health, wealth and happiness suffer in a life without balance.

Taking Back Control
To become empowered in our own lives we must establish ourselves as being worthy of self-care, we need to accept ourselves as being as important as everyone else and we need to learn to honor our own feel good requirements as imperative to our well-being. As you become stronger in looking after your needs better, you will find your stress levels going down, time expanding and life becoming more enjoyable.

To find balance and establish harmony give your self permission to weigh each demand on your time and energy by asking yourself these 4 simple questions;

i) Will this make a positive difference to my life or someone I care a great deal about?

ii) Will this simplify my day or complicate my day?

iii) Will this add to my happiness or to my stress level?

iv) Will this add to the overall quality of my life today?

I challenge you to keep it simple. Refrain from over complicating your life with a lot of ‘yeah but’s’. Stop falling for the excuses that keep you away from experiencing peace of mind, balance and harmony. Decide right now to have a great day!

Awakening the Sacred Self

In times of change, economic, climatic, environmental or otherwise we find that we need to be very clear on our own inner resources to maintain a sustainable sense of stability and peace. Without a clear knowing of our personal strengths and challenges we can easily be swept along in the chaotic spin of the moment. However, with knowledge and awareness we may not only learn to conserve our strength and resources but may also find ourselves in situations where we can offer added strength to those around us. The key to all this is coming to personally understand where the truth of our own heart lies. (more…)

Activating a Sacred Heart

I know you know the difference between a healthy heart and an unhealthy heart. I know you are aware the you feel better when you are in a loving relationship than when you’re not and I know you know that you feel empty when your heart isn’t fulfilled with purpose. And although I know you know all these things Stats Canada tells us something very different. Stats Canada tells us that people are suffering every day with neglected hearts!

The latest information from Stats Canada says:

Every 7 minutes in Canada, someone dies from heart disease or stroke.

Heart disease and stroke are two of the three leading causes of death in Canada. (Cancer is number one. A new report says cancer and heart disease were responsible for just over half of Canada’s 238,617 deaths in 2008.)

In 2008 cardiovascular disease accounted for:

  • 29% of all deaths in Canada (69,648 deaths – or more than 69,500)
  • 28% of all male deaths
  • 29.7% of all female deaths

In 2008, of all cardiovascular deaths:

  • 54% were due to ischemic heart disease (ischemia is an inadequate blood supply to an organ or part of the body, esp. the heart muscles).
  • 20% to stroke
  • 23% to heart attack

The leading cause of hospitalization in Canada continues to be heart disease and stroke, accounting for 16.9 % of total hospitalizations (19.8% of all hospitalizations for men and 14.0% for women).

These are sobering and astounding facts. They reflect a pandemic spiritual dis – ease of our most sacred self! It’s time to do something about it for our own good! It is obvious that as a culture we have neglected the importance of maintaining a sacred relationship with our Sacred Heart!

A Sacred Heart

We have been conditioned to think of the heart as a physical pump but more recently we have been made aware that the heart is truly so much more. Every day I get questions about how to heal a broken heart. Everyday I get calls to send distance to someone suffering with a different heart condition. Every day I hear stories from clients who are riddled with fear, doubt and worry. All of these are symptoms of suffering caused from living with a weak heart. A heart in dis-ease. A heart that doesn’t know it is sacred and worthy of our most reverent attention and respect.

The heart is a mighty organ. Your heart beats away steadily and does valiant, noble work every moment of every day to keep your body functioning well while navigating an unpredictable and demanding world. It is truly an amazing organ and much more than a pump that keeps blood circulating throughout your system keeping everything fed and nourished.

Your heart is the seat of the sacred as it rests and flows throughout your life. In the years that I have been doing this work I have seen a steady rise in the sadness that overwhelms the full expression of love. People are virtually starving their hearts to death. As people suffer with loss of self-worth, self-importance and personal esteem so do their hearts suffer. As we struggle with an external world that propagates fear and hyper-vigilance we rely less on our internal intuitions and instincts and more on schedules and demands enforced by others often ignoring our own internal wisdom all together. We become more and more disconnected from our internal knowing of what is sacred to us in life. But that doesn’t mean we have to live with it!

Activating a Sacred Heart

The heart is a vastly resilient organ that needs very little applied effort to restore itself to be in harmony with its divine nature. The main function of the heart, put as simply as I can, is to connect us to everything else. The magnetic power of the heart is 5000 times stronger than the brain. The heart is an electro-magnetic oscillating transmitter and receiver of all the vibrations of life force energy of our universe. By the nature of the heart we are intimately and intricately connected to the working rhythms of our universe. Through our hearts we attract and connect to the life force energy fields of others, relaying emotional information and signals to our brains that will in turn dictate our ability to adjust and survive with ease. Through our hearts we will determine the quality of the life we choose to experience and share with others. When the heart isn’t supported in health on a physical, mental, emotional or spiritual level it starts to limit its interactions with life around it. Its signals get weaker and it begins to harden up. The heart longs to connect with others and communicate with its universe in a dynamic way. When it isn’t able to do this it suffers, when it suffers – you suffer. Life becomes meaningless, challenging, un-rewarding, and isolated. The heart will not survive in an environment like that.

Consider the heart to be a liquid crystal that has the powerful ability to amplify and attract all that you desire for yourself and for your world. When the heart is turned on and awakened it has the power to shift mountains. The heart produces a hormone called oxytocin – a love hormone that like dopamine makes us very happy. When we are happy we generate a positive energy that pulses out in an electromagnetic pattern that influences all life around us and creates health. When we connect with others in this state we can experience a profound state of compassion and bliss that radiates out into the communities we live in. We owe it to ourselves and one another to create this dynamic energy.

Butterfly Effects of Change

A few months ago I connected with a woman through LinkedIn, Lu Pierro, and she had a vision to share!

She was promoting her 2nd annual Worldwide Holistic Day. The purpose of the event is to introduce people to the options offered through alternative complementary therapies. Ms. Pierro has asked practitioners of all modalities to plan an event where they can offer their respective therapies to their local communities at no charge on the 2nd of October on the anniversary of Gandhi’s birthday. The theme, of course, is to “Be the Change”. I became totally and completely smitten with the idea.

I immediately began to plan my own event and have passed the word on. I loved everything about Lu’s vision. I loved that it was meant to encompass  every modality and that it was a volunteer offering. I loved that it celebrated Gandhi’s birthday and that its primary invitation to the public was to be the change! But most of all I loved the simple fact that Lu understood the powerful effects of small intentional change. Of course this too was Gandhi’s life’s vision! I live my life by this code and it was a captivating idea to be part of something as huge as a global event just doing my own little thing! I couldn’t wait to share it!

So on October 2nd from 1 – 4pm I will be in Hamilton with my associates Lynda Henriksen, Mary Giuffre and Paul Clark doing our thing. I am going to be holding a seminar and open discussion on “Being the Change”, complete with focused guided meditations and a healing circle. We will close with networking and a hands on healing share by and for whom ever wants to participate. Our space holds 150 participants and I hope it’s packed! But if it’s not…it will still be perfect!

The Butterfly Effect

Very simply said…the butterfly effect says that small tiny changes can eventually cause huge effects, in  fact the theory goes that the gentle flap of a butterflies wings could be the cause of a major wind current like a hurricane down the road. In Chaos Theory the butterfly effect is defined as “the sensitive dependence on initial conditions, where a small change at one place in a non-linear system can result in large differences to a later state”.

When we bring this phenomenon to our front mind we add the factor of intention. When we multiply that intention by hundreds of people intending the same thing we increase our effect exponentially.

Intending Outcomes

We are not randomly, arbitrarily going to sit there in Hamilton in a group and mindlessly flap our metaphoric wings trying to create a wind storm. No we are going to intentionally establish a common heightened vibration, a symbiotic intention for ourselves first and then Be it.

As Gandhi put it to us..Be the change we want to see in the world. So on Sunday we will practice Being the Change! We will learn to embrace ourselves as the masters of change. We will come to understand our place in the Universe as co-creative beings with power. We will endeavor to feel with our whole bodies what it means to be healthy, vibrant and brave. We will experience the vast illumination of bio-electric magnetic energy that we truly are and feel what it feels like to be empowered in a self-generating high frequency vibration. And after that…well after that there is nothing left to do…after that we just are!

The greatest problem in the world today is that we have forgotten the truth of what we are. We are sacred, radiant beings of light, perfectly capable of being healthy, abundantly prosperous and loving beings. We’ve lost sight of our innate Divinity. When we learn to embrace our essential Godliness we instantly increase our vibration toward a more perfect frequency. The phenomenon that takes over then is called entrainment. Every molecule that is of a lower frequency will instantly strive to raise its vibration to match with the healthiest vibration available. Everyone that shares DNA will quickly establish a resonance with the increased frequencies – no matter how far away! All we have to do is be pure and strong in our in own individual intention and it will be felt the world over! A noble plan indeed! But in the world of quantum physics this is how it works.

Being the Change!

So on October 2nd I need your help! I need you to join me in Hamilton in body or in spirit and in the hours between 1 and 4 set your attention on being the very best you can be! Clear your mind of difficulties and challenges, and turn your focus on imagining your world as being stress free, joyful, healthy, love-filled and peaceful. For 3 hours on Sunday simply allow yourself to feel what it would feel like to live the life of your dreams. Deny the voices that tell you life isn’t so or that it can’t be had, or to stop being foolish. For 3 hours intend a tsunami of positive loving energy flooding through the hearts and minds of all those you come in contact with, your relatives near and far, and in all the places you have had the good fortune to visit.

For 3 small hours on Sunday October 2nd catch the wave of change toward the life of your dreams and join thousands of others as we co-create a vision and in truth a new possibility for a positive, loving, healthy, and peaceful world. For 3 small hours on Sunday join us in daring to BEING THE CHANGE!

10 Habits of Happy People

Happiness is an ideal that many say they would love to experience to a greater degree in their lives and yet try as they might, it remains distant and elusive. There are interesting commonalities that happy people share. These are not coincidental, they are steadfast choices we get to make as the base line for our lives. First you really need to determine, in front mind, if you truly want to be happy or if you just want to complain about not being happy. If you really want the peace that comes with being genuinely happy keep reading…if you want to complain don’t read any further…you might catch yourself feeling happier by the end of the list and we wouldn’t want to shift your mood without your consent!

1. They feel lucky and privileged to be alive

Happy people are appreciatively amused by their good fortune and celebrate their successes openly and freely with friends and family. Every new day holds a new chance for good luck to find them, and they enjoy even the smallest of win falls.

2. They express gratitude often and sincerely

Happy people tend not to take things for granted. Every gift, blessing or kindness directed toward them feels to be exceptional and important.

3. They practice forgiveness

Happy people don’t hold grudges and work at letting things go. They are more likely to look at their fellow-man compassionately than suspiciously.

4. They give of their time and talents generously and freely

Happy people believe in charity and paying things forward. They will volunteer easily since they have no fear of losing anything.

5. They have a perspective of life that is bigger than just themselves

Happy people often have a perspective of life that takes them far beyond their own lives. They focus on greater, more worldly issues instead of small petty things. They are often directed to a calling to help aid a distressful situation somewhere in the world. They are not afraid of letting their own problems go in light of the big picture.

6. They look at life with wonder and curiousity

Happy people tend to be interested in everything. They are easily enchanted by curiosities and are eager to get involved in new adventures.

7. They place their attention on positive outcomes and possibilities

Happy people try in all situations to be optimistic and cheerful. The expect the best and usually get it. They understand the Law of Attraction and know they would rather attract happy situations than miserable ones.

8. They state an intention to be happy and look for miracles

Happy people look for miracles everywhere. They see the amazing little things that happen every day that ultimately set the big wheels in motion.

9. They respect their lives and enjoy them

Happy people don’t long for things they don’t have but rather set their focus firmly on the blessings of the life they do have and move into full attention to honour and respect and preserve life as they have it. They treat their life and the life of others as a Sacred experience. They care for and preserve the assets in hand.

*10. They understand themselves to be the source of love and happiness

MOST IMPORTANTLY, happy people understand that they themselves are the generators of happiness and strive to share it rather than looking for something or someone outside of themselves to make them happy. They take it upon themselves to create happiness where ever they go and eagerly look for the next chance to smile.

‘Making a Difference’ or ‘Just Being Different’

I tell myself things; things that I believe make a difference to not only how I live but also why I live. Determining what I believe has been a motivation and a quest all rolled into one. I have built and lost small fortunes, I have re-created myself a number of times professionally and personally, I have climbed spiritual mountains and it seems I have walked a million miles in pilgrimage to discover myself and try to understand the meaning of life but also the meaning of me in life. I have discovered that a driving force in my life is to make a difference. And I have told myself many stories to make it so.
I tell myself for instance, that I have a responsibility to be the best I can be. I came to this life, I thought, because I wanted to make a difference; a difference to myself, to others and indeed to the evolution of humanity. At least this seems to be a commonly accepted idea that that’s how it goes in the beginning – sometime before we have a brain and a physical body. I’m not convinced the soul thinks or plans or chooses as an individuated being but here I am none-the-less, sitting on planet Earth, at this point in history, with understanding of myself here and now, as well as in other past life experiences connected to this one, always thinking.

Driven Madly (or mad) by Purpose

There is an inherent quality within us that desperately wants this life we live to matter. We define it as “purpose”. We search for purpose and try to create it in our daily lives. All I know for sure is that this need to make a difference has driven me, as I know it has driven others. We seem compelled as individuals to believe that our lives matter, that the lives of our dearly departed also mattered to the grand scheme of things. As a collective we seem intent on aiding the conscious evolution of mankind. But I’m beginning to understand life differently; instead of me out there making a difference, I’m starting to think that maybe me in here is all the difference that is needed. My purpose isn’t something I have to do…it’s something I have to accept simply as already having happened just by the essential quality of me being. I AM and that is enough purpose.
Over the years I have stumble on some profound realizations. For instance, purpose often seems to stay elusive. Fact is purpose is so intimately connected to our ego that it can be very hard to release our need to have a purpose. The search itself is illusory; there doesn’t seem to be an answer beyond the quest. The true purpose seems to just ‘be’.  In the ‘being’ we are still committed to evolving all the same. Evolving in our being-ness. Humanity evolves when we individually come to fully accept our truest essential being. Purpose arises out of our authenticity. Purpose does not create authenticity.

A Living Imperative

We are created out of a spiritual imperative to experience life. We are a fulcrum of energy that arises out of the breath of God itself, it instills in us in an embryological imperative in the very moment of conception and emerges throughout every possible expression we witness around us. Creation is a force of god consciousness, a sacred manifestation of attraction that is omniscient. A magnetic manifestation of organized energy that is naturally attractive to all symbiotic fields of energy.
And within this natural expression of being that I am, I am compelled to create. It is essential to my purest being to create, procreate and re-create. By nature I am a uniquely created being. Even my DNA is unique, an original manifestation of natural expression. And I believe it is this creative force of nature that determines that it is my soul purpose to continue creating my life as consciously and as uniquely as possible. My human questing mind working in concert with my beating heart transmits my creative possibility into our joint future, as does yours, and so life evolves.

The Struggle

There are times in our lives
when everything is especially hard.
Usually these times pass over quickly, but sometimes…
Sometimes a struggle can last for years.

And then it is shocking to realize one day,
just out of the blue,
exactly how long one has allowed oneself to live in a hard time.
Suddenly, you realize that you really can’t,
honestly can’t,
take one more day of struggle!
Not one more day!

And then you sigh!

For in order not to do one more day,
You must do something else.
Something that will change life into something new!
But if we knew what that was or how to do it
we wouldn’t be stuck in the first place.

The new ways lie in the old ways.
Hidden, entwined in all that you already do,
Entangled in all the patterns, all the habits, and all the stories,
Beneath the myth that is your life
Lies your truth and your path.

Healing is choosing and releasing what you don’t want to struggle with anymore, for your own sanity.
Change happens in a heartbeat,

The period of time leading up to the change takes an eternity!
Even once someone knows the why to change
And the when to change, the what to change and where to change,
the how to do it is the thing.

The how can take forever
And no-one can help.
It’s a solitary journey to the soul truth.
But when you get there you’ll know,
because suddenly there’s no going back.
And then…

Change happens in a heatbeat.

The Hips Don’t Lie

A friend and I were recently talking about how the body manifests very specific aches and pains that always coincide beautifully with the emotional and psychological issues that are happening at any given time. Take for example the condition of Sciatica. Both my friend and I have had to deal with this issue from time to time in our lives. At times it is just a niggling annoying ache and at other times it is debilitating and crippling barely allowing for any kind of movement at all. So – yes, we did something that wretched our poor backs out of alignment, causing the sciatic nerve to become pinched as it travels through the hip and yes, we can take an anti-inflammatory along with alternating hot and cold packs every 5 – 10 minutes and yes of course we can and will do our stretches that open up the hip-joint and gently allow the pieces to all slip quietly gently back into the proper position eventually creating restored balance and relief of pain. But why? Why does this happen when you’ve done nothing out of the ordinary, and why is it that it is so damn frustrating? I know one thing for certain  – the hips don’t lie – and they like every other part of your body they have a story to tell!

When a body part isn’t functioning at it’s best there are always many parts of the story that we need to try to pay attention to and try to accommodate in the healing process if we want to get to the root of the problem. We need to pay attention to the details, specifically to the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of the issue. This is a truly holistic approach to health. When we approach any health issue from a whole perspective we come to know many of the details that will create awareness and most often prevent reoccurrence of the same issue. Mind you, that said, there are certain issues which do recur for us because they are our life issues. They are issues that we will continuely have to keep dealing with from many points of relevance if they are our life’s work. For instance a genetic disease, a chronic recurrent condition, or a syndrome that creates specific limitations that have to be considered everyday. Although the same principles apply, for now we’ll just talk about the daily, ‘accidental’, transient incidents that come and go easily without long-term ramifications. Like sciatica.

So this is how it works:

i) get your journal – that’s that book/pad of paper where you record all the happenings relating to your personal growth – this is a journal moment! Speak/write clearly and fast; not prettily. Do not edit yourself, say what comes to mind, use the vernacular that emerges do not worry about proper grammar, nice language or being politically correct – just call it as you see it. The words that spontaneously spill out of you have a truth all their own. For instance: ‘Sciatica is a pain in the ass! I can hardly move one foot in front of the other’ is much clearer when trying to get to the truth of the thing than saying ‘Sciatica is an intensely painful sensation beginning in the buttocks radiating down my left leg toward my ankle’. Your doctor might prefer this way for diagnosis but we’ve already determined what ails us physically, now we want to know the nitty-gritty of the thing!

ii) Identify all related information – take a look at the body part that is affected, what is the result in the functioning of the part due to the problem, how should the body part normally function and what is being restricted? What could you do before and what can you do now? How does this condition affect the way you live the rest of your life? What does it stop you from doing? What do you have to do to make it stop hurting? What does it permit you to have? In other words – how does it serve you?

iii) Now feel it out. What emotions are stimulated by the problem? Are you frustrated, angry, self-pitying, grief-stricken, beside yourself, worried, whiny? Are you being melodramatic? As you move your body – what happens to the emotions you feel? Move slowly making tiny deliberate micro movements. Pay attention – often there are unresolved emotions locked into old injuries that have never been released. The body will hold on to the emotion in those areas until the day comes when it’s time to release them. A renewed injury may serve simply to remind us to revisit the issue and get it gone! Be careful not to stuff away any emotion that may arise. Keep journaling – even through your tears!

iv) What do you think or believe. Notice your mental reactions to the emotions and to the pain you are feeling. Where do your thoughts take you? Do you tell yourself not to be stupid or weak? Do you listen easily? Does a memory suddenly flash into your mind of something you’ve long forgotten? We tend to live our lives in patterns and rituals – do you remember other times when you had the same experience? Did the injury or pain begin on the anniversary of something? I had a client once who suffered migraine headaches every year around the same time each Spring for approx 10 years- eventually it was discovered that they actually coincided with her mother’s death 15 years earlier. They had had a very unhappy relationship and there were many things that were left unsaid with her passing. After a very emotional outpouring of past resentments and betrayals she discovered that not only did she love her Mother very much but that she was also punishing herself for not having made amends before her mother died. This was her way of suffering in atonement for her guilt of not setting the record straight before her death. The migraines never came back.

I have had many clients over the years that start developing health problems after a certain age just because their parents and grand parents did. They unconsciously believed that there came ‘an age’ where you just naturally started to fall apart – after all they had heard it said millions of times. When they realized the pattern they were able to quickly re-establish themselves as healthy, vibrant and pain free. We are all programmed to believe certain things about our selves and our bodies from body image to function that are not necessarily true in real life yet we create conditions and circumstances that seem to validate the opinion. Learn to become really aware of what you ‘think and believe’ about yourself. Every pain has a story that hasn’t been told yet. Be patient with yourself and the story will reveal itself.

v) Let Love and Forgiveness flow. Every pain also represents a lack of faith in your perfection and gives credence to a weakness. Your divine nature understands you are perfect and accepts every opportunity as one in which to learn and grow. When we stop learning and growing we experience pain. Ask yourself what have I lost faith in? Why do I want to stay stuck in this moment rather than move freely forward? When we are in pain we have lost an ability to love ourselves in some measure. Ask yourself why? Are you willing to love yourself back to health? Are you willing to believe that you are worth loving as you are? Can you practice forgiveness and acceptance toward yourself. One client was experiencing recurrent bladder and urinary infections every few months for no apparent reason. After doing the steps above she realized that she had been ‘pissy’ to all her loved ones causing grief and hostility whenever she spoke. She was behaving this way because she had lost a sense of her own purpose and life direction and was creating small conflicts everywhere to stay distracted rather than face her own perceived inadequacies. Through love and forgiveness directed at herself she came to find an enjoyable path and she stopped creating painful infections and interactions.

The Truth Will Set You Free of Pain

Does this seem like a lot of work? – it’s not actually. Discovery of the truth really happens very quickly once you learn not to be afraid of it. When the ego can step down for a moment and not defensively protect it’s right to feel pain we can learn to really just get over it!

So Sciatica – well – it turns out it’s a matter of integrity – do you walk your talk?  As you are growing and learning are you still walking your talk? Low back issues are related to support issues and usually support issues related to money. Our hips are our gross motor functions on how we move forward in the world. Our knees and ankles are finer motor skills relating to manoeuverability but our hips direct our movement forward in life. When we have sciatica we are choosing to ignore a vital piece of our truth and usually are trying to push ahead or through a situation without considering the whole truth. Our conflict appears in our inability to take a step that is in harmony for our highest good or in alignment with our highest truth. Our sacrum represents the cradle of our life, our security and our core strengths, when we ignore our fundamental truths and are acting outside of our core truth we experience a mis-alignment which causes our bodies to shut down in pain. Usually it’s the feminine softer issues that are being ignored as the masculine energy power drives us forward toward a plan contrived in the mind. Depending on where the bulk of the localized pain is felt will give further clues, ie; low back relates to financial support issues, rear buttocks relates to ability to move freely, knees to choices and decisions, feet to ability to step forward etc. AND…It’s so damn frustrating because you KNOW intuitively that you aren’t living in your truth! There are many books available as fine resources to help you with clues – one of the best is Louise Hay’s You Can Heal Your Life or Heal Your Body.

Generally speaking these types of problems are easily solved with self loving supportive treatments like, stretching – which gives permission to move safely, hot/cold packs, baths and wraps – for nurturing and contact, and just plain listening to what the body has to say about what ails you. The body doesn’t lie and it is intimately connected to all the happenings of your life. Every thing that has ever happened to you is stored in the cellular memory bank that is your body. With enough patience and self-directed loving kindness we can access our stories, belief systems and fears simply by listening well – just like you would for a best friend.
