Grounded in Nature…Naturally!

5 year old meWhen I was 5 years old my parents moved us from Toronto to Markdale, ON, a rural community some 2 hours north of the city. They had discovered a relic of an abandoned and ‘haunted’ house on an overgrown 10 acres of land out in the country that filled their hearts and minds with starry-eyed dreams for the future. Fortunately nobody else could see the place like they did and they were able to pick the place up for a steal and they proceeded to work their guts out every weekend until it reached a suitable standard of living to move their young family into. I remember being happy and free out on the farm in the middle of nature. In kindergarten back in the city, our teacher asked the class who went to church on Sundays. When everyone except me had raised their hands the teacher asked me for some insight. I responded innocently enough as only a 5 year old can, “We don’t have to go to church, we go to the farm.” The child in me recognized even then, (though the adult forgot), that Nature’s kingdom would be my spiritual haven all my life.

Over time, as I grew up, the farm also grew to 100 acres of forests, meadows and gardens. I remember being happy and free on the land, in the woods, in the fields, in the swamps, in the barns, working, camping out and exploring but it wasn’t for many, many years that I realized how deeply soul nurturingly important it was for me to be there nor did I understand the importance of the lessons and teachings I unconsciously learned while there. As an adult I understand that it is so often just plain human nature to take things for granted and take advantage of situations – children are not exempt from that. Although I knew I loved being there at the time I was mindless to what I actually learned and received in my enthusiastic emergence into nature.

Learning How to Live in Harmony

As a child living and working on a farm is different from being an adult. As a child I did chores as I was told but as an adult you make decisions, plot out a plan, take control. By the time I had returned to farming as an adult I had a lot of other things in my life that laid claim to my daily attention and available energy. I had to learn to rock and roll, deal with squeaky wheels first and do the best I could the rest of the time. I found it much easier to prioritize my days if I let Nature lead the dance. Living with the seasons taught me about being in the moment of life. Nature doesn’t wait, plan or hesitate. Nature expresses and produces in every moment. To rise to the task of planting, harvesting and the myriad of tasks in between I had to learn to be with Nature as fully as possible in every moment as well. As my willingness to participate with the natural flow of life around me developed I learned to also appreciate various other natural phenomena.

I became intensely aware of our journey around the Sun from season to season, of the Moon’s push and pull month by month, of the insects and their cycles in my garden and of the influence of various animals that made regular unusual appearances. Nature began speaking to me more clearly. Relevant messages were transmitted to me every day through all of her manifestations. It took patience, practice and surrender to hear properly. I learned to listen to the plants; flowers, weeds and trees, to the wind, and to earth with my feet buried in her soil. Birds and animals became messengers and harbingers of change. When Snapping Turtle began to appear at my door step followed by Snake and Turkey Vulture I learned to pay attention; change was afoot. All I knew for sure was that I was to keep my eyes and ears open for a messenger, one that would help me discover a foundation stone in my life in a new direction. I also knew that I would have to be ready to release any old attachments at any give moment and leave behind what needed to be for my and my family’s highest good. I continued on with my work, my herbs, my gardens until one day my messenger appeared. The question he asked was simple “Had I ever heard of Reiki?” The answer was even simpler…”No – and I wasn’t interested!”

Fortunately, my messenger was persistent. He became a good friend. He guided me through meandering pathways to explore my universe and world in ways I had never considered. Eventually he posed the question again…this time I was ready to crack the door a bit.  Through him I met my Reiki Master and through his teachings and support I began to open to new possibilities yet again. And once again nature came to me presenting herself in new ways. I began to experience the energy of nature, initially as energy patterns flowing and then as form presenting as deva, as fairy, as spiritual beings. Just as I had learned to develop relationship with the physical aspects of nature I was now learning to hone a relationship with the spiritual side of nature. My garden flourished beyond belief and reason. And I flourished in my garden. I grew, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Reiki became an integral part of my family’s life. I began to witness the life force energy in my clients and friends. I also began to see how an individual’s life force energy invigorated when in direct communion with nature via trees, plants, crystals, animals or exposure to the elements of air, water, fire and earth.

A new synergy began to motivate my life. I began practicing Reiki full time. We moved. More gardens were built along the way. My natural connection with spirit grew and expand into my consciousness. I began to understand how Spirit flows through all things and that all things hold varying degrees of consciousness. Furthermore, all “things” with consciousness flow together in one divine perfectly ordered field of energy. I craved sitting in the outdoors immersed in the energy of trees, water, wind and sunlight. My awareness grew in the knowing that the sensations I had when in Reiki sessions were stimulated the same way when I sat immersed in nature. I took another look into what Reiki was really all about.

Reiki; Nature’s Healing Art

disney tree of lifeReiki is a hundred year old tradition that was brewed through the mindful meditations of one Mikao Usui, a practicing Zen buddhist , as he continuously immersed himself in nature and his own childhood cultural upbringing informed by Shinto – a form of Japanese shamanism. His spiritual belief that the Divine could be realized and experienced in all natural manifestation is central to the hands on healing art of Reiki. The symbols, precepts and mantras all reflect the presence of light and bountiful natural energy as our inherent privilege if we were to surrender to it. So it began to dawn on me that there were some important relationships to note here. The practice of Reiki has a unique ability to connect us to our natural life force energy. It presents our imbalances, then re-balances, then inspires us to discover a peaceful way to be in the world. It causes wellness as an expression of harmony. I spent the next 20 years practicing Reiki with clients. In those years deep questions arose over everything, I always ended up back in the garden, under the trees, syncing my personal energy field with the plants, the earth, the elements and the spirit of nature. My busy mind would calm, the stress in my body would dissipate and I would be able to come back to work realigned, strengthened and regenerated.

Nature Spirit Calling and Illuminating A New Path

Many years ago I was asked to speak at a new age type gathering, my topic was to be “The connection between herbs and spirituality” It stumped me totally at the time. My mind didn’t even remotely understand the link and have pondered the topic ever since. Today I get it. It’s simple. Nature is the connection. We are all made of the same stuff; carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen and we mutually depend on one another. It is often said that nature would do just fine without us interfering, that she will revive after we have destroyed as much of her as possible before our own demise and I believe that is true to an extent. But I also think that nature with us co-operating with her in harmony will create outstanding things that we haven’t even begun to imagine yet. I believe that our educations systems, our health care systems, our communities, our architecture and our technology will developed in such extraordinary ways as we learn to mimic the ways of nature. Nature seems to thrive in the reflection of humanity and visa versa. My garden grows well if left alone but when I help Nature grow my garden with understanding, love and creative vision my garden responds with overwhelming abundance. When I step into my garden projecting gratitude and happiness the vibe returns to me ten fold. When I nurture my garden as I would my children, with love in my heart, gentleness in my hands and ears eager to hear the story of its life unfolding I am rewarded with the energy of an intimate being that loves and understands me back and literally can’t wait to share.

We may sit as a foreign entity upon the earth believing that we are superior and have dominion,  separate of her being and indifferent to her power or her needs. Or we may surrender to her energy that flows to us and through us via all of her expressions and harmonize willingly. As we learn to re-connect to our beautiful Mother earth and ground deeply with our natural wisdom we will also learn to experience ourselves as emergent growth bearing fantastic fruit. Our ideas and dreams are not mindless impulses but deeply transmitted bio-diverse energies needing to find rich soil to grow in. The mind and heart of earth’s combined humanity has the ability to foster new seeds of thought to unprecedented realities. The Earth is inspiring us now with new possibilities, by furthering our connection with her, grounding in a mindful way our dreams can take root and co-creatively we can bring a new world to life for our future generations to build upon.

‘Making a Difference’ or ‘Just Being Different’

I tell myself things; things that I believe make a difference to not only how I live but also why I live. Determining what I believe has been a motivation and a quest all rolled into one. I have built and lost small fortunes, I have re-created myself a number of times professionally and personally, I have climbed spiritual mountains and it seems I have walked a million miles in pilgrimage to discover myself and try to understand the meaning of life but also the meaning of me in life. I have discovered that a driving force in my life is to make a difference. And I have told myself many stories to make it so.
I tell myself for instance, that I have a responsibility to be the best I can be. I came to this life, I thought, because I wanted to make a difference; a difference to myself, to others and indeed to the evolution of humanity. At least this seems to be a commonly accepted idea that that’s how it goes in the beginning – sometime before we have a brain and a physical body. I’m not convinced the soul thinks or plans or chooses as an individuated being but here I am none-the-less, sitting on planet Earth, at this point in history, with understanding of myself here and now, as well as in other past life experiences connected to this one, always thinking.

Driven Madly (or mad) by Purpose

There is an inherent quality within us that desperately wants this life we live to matter. We define it as “purpose”. We search for purpose and try to create it in our daily lives. All I know for sure is that this need to make a difference has driven me, as I know it has driven others. We seem compelled as individuals to believe that our lives matter, that the lives of our dearly departed also mattered to the grand scheme of things. As a collective we seem intent on aiding the conscious evolution of mankind. But I’m beginning to understand life differently; instead of me out there making a difference, I’m starting to think that maybe me in here is all the difference that is needed. My purpose isn’t something I have to do…it’s something I have to accept simply as already having happened just by the essential quality of me being. I AM and that is enough purpose.
Over the years I have stumble on some profound realizations. For instance, purpose often seems to stay elusive. Fact is purpose is so intimately connected to our ego that it can be very hard to release our need to have a purpose. The search itself is illusory; there doesn’t seem to be an answer beyond the quest. The true purpose seems to just ‘be’.  In the ‘being’ we are still committed to evolving all the same. Evolving in our being-ness. Humanity evolves when we individually come to fully accept our truest essential being. Purpose arises out of our authenticity. Purpose does not create authenticity.

A Living Imperative

We are created out of a spiritual imperative to experience life. We are a fulcrum of energy that arises out of the breath of God itself, it instills in us in an embryological imperative in the very moment of conception and emerges throughout every possible expression we witness around us. Creation is a force of god consciousness, a sacred manifestation of attraction that is omniscient. A magnetic manifestation of organized energy that is naturally attractive to all symbiotic fields of energy.
And within this natural expression of being that I am, I am compelled to create. It is essential to my purest being to create, procreate and re-create. By nature I am a uniquely created being. Even my DNA is unique, an original manifestation of natural expression. And I believe it is this creative force of nature that determines that it is my soul purpose to continue creating my life as consciously and as uniquely as possible. My human questing mind working in concert with my beating heart transmits my creative possibility into our joint future, as does yours, and so life evolves.

Calling all Dreamers and Lightworkers – Your Destiny is Now!

I warn you right now, before you read another word, today I’m being deadly serious. In light of the happenings on our earth and in our consciousness over the past couple of weeks it’s time to get seriously REAL! I’m talking about you starting to live as the Divine Being you really are – the Earth needs you to.  YOU are each wondrous Beings of Light and possibility, here on earth at this time in history to help birth the new changes! It’s time to step up to the plate! Your destiny is here now!

The Situation

We – all human beings on earth –  are sitting in a precarious state these days. Our earth is rocking and rolling, shifting and shimmying and her people are becoming deeply frightened. People who had previously ignored the turmoil and upheaval in the world are suddenly waking to the crisis that millions are facing daily. People around the world are crying tears of empathy and sorrow for their fellow beings’ trauma and hardships. But compassionate crying is not what is needed now. Now we need strength and clarity if we want to heal and evolve consciousness. We need all hands on deck on Starship Earth! It is critical that we begin to direct all our focus on our strengths, our possibility and most importantly on our Divinity. It is vital that we begin to see ourselves as sacred expressions of Divine Light if we intend for humanity to survive these incumbent earth changes.

I want to be very clear here – this truly is not a doomsday warning. I don’t know, no one knows, what our world will be like when all the dust settles and the waters recede. I’m sure for the people of the many countries that have been so tragically hit by drought, flood, earthquake, tsunami, tornadoes, and fire,  it must seem as though the very worst has already happened. Their lives are irreparably changed. And these are just a few of the many natural devastating events that have happened recently, never mind the politically based atrocities that happen continuously on one continent or another. I couldn’t guess what the outcome of the coming years will be. Who’ll be safe and who’ll be endangered is not however relevant to the outcome. As far as I’m concerned we’re all in it together. Nothing sets us apart except our geographical locations. The entire earth and her populations will be required to continuously adapt as living species after species are eradicated from our biosphere. What happens to one happens to all equally. It’s time to step out of the illusion that tells you that the horrific things that are happening to the earth and her people are not happening to you. What happens to one of us – affects all of us.

It’s time to wake up, we’re living a nightmare!

The prophecies are ominous, the science is nebulous, some religions offer ideas of salvation for select numbers and chosen denominations. The masses however remain confused and worried. It’s like we are living in a nightmare and just like being in a dream we feel almost powerless to change the course of events as they continue to unfold. The only thing most people agree on is that a transition is near. We are approaching a time in history, a date, after which no one has any idea of what will happen. We are however, agreed that we are entering a new uncharted era. We are in transition and we need a plan!

It’s time to let go and let God! In a very big way! But I’m not suggesting that you just give up…I’m saying that it is time to just wake up, let go of the nightmare and fear and let your Divine nature take hold of the reins.

To wake up we must implement a strategy now, for now, to get us through now. We can only heal in the now. To heal a problem, dysfunction or system of dis-ease we need to do 3 things:

i) Come into full awareness of the problem as it exists, without judgment or blame or believing in fairy tales endings. Just see it for what it is. Step into the real moment – NOW.

ii) Adopt healthy, sustainable life-generating values, principles and habits. Stop indulging in habits that don’t support growth, expansion and life.

iii) Understand yourself and cultivate yourself as an empowered Divine Being with the ability to make choices of unlimited resource and potential. Begin conducting yourself with all your senses balanced in heart and mind.

You are Greater than You Realize!

It is becoming increasingly critical that we learn to understand ourselves fully as an integral part of earth and earth consciousness. As the earth moans and groans and adjusts her great body to move through the galaxy at this time in history we are obligated to understand that we are along for the ride. It is our option to continue behaving as parasites upon the surface of the earth, sucking the life out of our host with out a care for her survival, only looking after our own relative comfort. Be aware that eventually, as the living species that are extensions of elemental earth perish and become extinct, our own parasitic selves become vulnerable to death. However, if we were to embrace ourselves as conscious living extensions of earth as well and recognize our innate Divine aspect, there is a hope, not primarily for survival, but for successful transition.

Most of us know that the truest essence of ourselves is not restricted to being this imperfect vulnerable physical body that walks a few short years upon the surface of earth, but rather that we are divine in nature and that our true spirit is intrinsically connected to all spirit and thus ultimately that spirit will survive all physical devastation. Our challenge then becomes not of surviving physical life, but in not creating negative karma that will continue to hinder the growth of generations to come. What we do today will inevitably influence what our future generations have to contend with.

Consider that by our actions and reactions, our successors will either be starting again, struggling from scratch, back to square one, like has happened at least 4 times before in our history on planet earth or that there exists a possibility of continued expansion and growth from this day forward. Perhaps if we were to conduct our selves with grace, gratitude, responsibility, forgiveness, love and compassion we could lessen the burdens of  excessive emotional and spiritual baggage that we have carried forward to date and are already shipping into the future.

Create an Inspired Vision for Life

Imagine a new world that is guided in wisdom and love; a world where we are aware of our history and are no longer required to engage in power struggles and greed to the detriment of our fellow beings in consciousness. Imagine that we have all learned our lessons well, and that we, through self forgiveness and compassionate understanding, understand the roles we have all played in the devastation of our earth as she is today but also that we are able to celebrate in her renewal and long-term survival.

Spirit will re-manifest itself for expression somewhere again in time and space. Great mystics, visionaries, scientists and healers have always known that life extends beyond the confines of our physical expressions, beyond life on earth in fact. There is life within life, many systems of life, co-existing and interdependent. We humans are but one stream of sentient consciousness.

In this blog site I’ve written a lot about empowerment, making choices, sacred geometry, divine expression over the years. These are not idle self-interested musings with vague purpose. The purpose of this blog is to address our changing world and her conditions. As the stewards of this little spinning Garden of Eden, we are obligated to develop strategies for her survival and yet we have steadfastly refused to tend to her care. We have failed miserably and we are now sit facing imminent disaster and self-destruction.

It is not too late to recommit and reinvest our attention and intentions for a healthy vibrant outcome. We need to adopt new ways of coping and handling life force energy quickly if we intend to create a peaceful, sustainable future. Specifically we need to adopt those qualities NOW~ We need to embrace sustainable and regenerative thoughts, act with love and compassion, refuse the indoctrination of fear and warring from the powers that be and live generously with grace. We are unlimited sources of energy, able to visualize and actively create a new destination than the one we are currently headed towards. If we want future generations to be able to experience peaceful life on Earth we need to plant those spiritual seeds now so a new expression of earth can be birthed.

A Jewel for the 2011 Heart

While browsing the internet this morning I stumbled on an amazing blog by Aryz Eden Sky.

It is on her site that I found this poster. I don’t know it’s origin. But I wish I could find a full size version for my wall. The mantra on it simply sums it up! The welfare of the planet is in our hands, NOW!

It’s all we have to do folks. For ourselves, for each other, for our planet…All the good we can!

Maintain an attitude of awareness that all that you do has bearing on everything else, and that eventually all that you think, and all that you are will join with other like minds and bring about the changes we desire. What is truly in your heart will be made manifest.

The earth and all her species, our environment, human consciousness, world economies and governments, health, you, me and our children are all going through the same changes. We are currently all more dead than alive. Everything sits in a precarious, vulnerable state, waiting for something to lead us forward. But we’re it! We are what we are waiting for. Within each of us glows the only answer that is needed. It’s time for  us to serve each other with goodness, kindness,  and compassion.

You only have to go to your own heart for the inspiration that will guide you. Our most precious jewel, that warm glowing transmitter/receiver sitting in the centre of your own chest is attuned to the green jewel that is earth. As you love yourselves and one another, and endeavor to demand respect for yourselves so will the earth be respected. All outer change will start within you. As Gandhi said ” Be the change you want to see” and never before has this been as needed as now. The evolution of human consciousness demands it.

In 2011, live as though you are the keeper of the most sacred jewel ever discovered, for in truth you are. Your heart has the unparalleled power to generate vast amounts of life-giving energy. Be brave enough, kind enough and generous enough to share the energy in any and every way possible. Hold nothing back and watch the bounty flow throughout all of creation!

Healing: Reconnecting to Your Sacred Geometry

The human being is a divine construction of geometrical shapes and patterns that resonate with all natural expressions of life. Each human-being holds within their DNA a signature coding and subsequent frequency that is in perfect alignment with his universe and potential. His hopes and dreams for his life will automatically manifest if he stays true to his original hologram. Life however, is full of contrived hopes and illusions that stymie our growth and potential expression, which if we believe in them will create fear, limitation and dysfunction.

In order to manifest the life of your dreams you have to become still, patient, and willing to heal whatever has come into your life that separates you from your potential. Only when you reconnect to the sacred geometry that presides over all life, to the order that governs your life, and to the order with which you have already co-creatively predetermined your place will you know yourself to be healthy and filled with a sense of well-being. That quiet, hidden divine order set the dream of your Self into your unconscious mind and it’s in the quiet hidden order of your sacred geometry that you will find the right path to follow to realize your dream. Your individual sacred geometry determines the building blocks of the stable, non-corruptible expression of your perfect dream.

This is a magical understanding, supported in esoteric wisdom. You may not want to hear it. That is to say that your left brain, goal setting side may not want to surrender to your inner inherent truth. We each have an inborn desire to be great and we have an outer fear that we aren’t good enough. We also though, have a deep knowing that we are profoundly powerful in our own right and yet feel that overwhelming fear of  vulnerability and weakness created by our environment, our karma and our life’s lessons. In a judgmental, critical, materialistic, media controlled world we too often see ourselves longing for everything we are told we should want if we want to be considered successful and powerful and yet at the same time we feel the niggling despair of not being able to achieve those prescribed goals.

Finding the Magic

Your dream lies in your truth. Your happiness lies in living your truth. Your truth is aligned in perfect wisdom with the Divine order of which you are an inseparable part. Your inborn desire to be great grows out of the perfection of your inherent construction; your sacred geometry. We intuitively understand the impenetrable strength that is divinely engineered into our most primitive unconscious being. A sense of personal weakness is created and experienced only when we witness ourselves as a product and reflection of the outside world. We lose our faith in our perfection when we start to identify with the crumbling impermanent world that has been built around us devoid of sacred heart and intelligence.

The magic happens when we allow our consciousness to reflect the magnificent ecological harmony of a forest, or the structure of a tiny sea shell, for in their reflection we know ourselves truly. In that moment we intuitively recognize the godliness locked within our own cellular being. Even looking upon ancient structures like the Parthenon, or magnificent cathedrals or the Sydney Opera House for example will fill us with a sense of awesome innate power because they too have been constructed using the same geometrical shapes, patterns and principles that we ourselves are built of. We naturally harmoniously resonate with all sacred constructions, and in the breath of a moment can be reawakened to our natural perfection.

Alchemy, Transformation & Perfect Manifestation

You are a magical, alchemical human being but you may not know it yet. You are as a butterfly wanting to become it’s full glorious self even when all you can feel is the sluggishness of the caterpillar. And just like the caterpillar, it will take an alchemical transformation to shift into a new way of being. Alchemy is based in understanding the laws that govern our universe and then stepping into the role of designer. By learning the necessary skills we can become the alchemist that seems to magically create the life of dreams and inspirations, from straw to gold.

Trust in the knowledge that there is an order in our Universe that is mathematically precise. All growth happens through the expansion of patterns.  The patterns are created by a sacred geometry that manifests throughout all natural expressions of form. We are part of those same expressions. The helix and swirling logarithmic spirals map out the basic structures that govern our physical universe. Simple geometric shapes and immutable patterns shape our physical reality. You, yourself are a mass of DNA helix on a cellular level, and swirling energy spirals that all operate with logical precision in resonance with universal patterns.

Reiki, Camping & Healing; A Natural Connection

From 2002 to 2012 I lived in a truly magical place. Our one acre lot sat nestled amongst 30 acres of rolling hills and forest, perennial gardens and open space. We had more than a dozen ancient spruce sentinels majestically standing on guard over our property, wildlife – from squirrels to deer- roamed freely in broad daylight, birds chirped, sang and warbled all day long and yet my home was on the edge of town within walking distance to all amenities. My husband even put in a golf green and tee deck for a 60 yard practice hole. It was perfect. A Slice of Eden. I wasn’t the only one who thought so either.

I had worked from my home for about 8 years when it dawned on me quite unexpectedly that it was possible to add a new dimension to my work with my students. My property suited me well. Clients and friends had always enjoyed the gardens and property waiting for appointments or for meditation circles but it was that one particular morning after my meditations that I considered the possibility of my home becoming a healing/educational retreat place. It was rustic, it was natural, it was peaceful and it was time to share it!

There was a feeling on those grounds of being held. Of being supported. Of being hugged by the trees. I thought at first I was the only one who felt it and then I started noticing the melting that happened in people’s faces and posture as they sat on the patios. Despite their issues, despite their pain, there is a space here where it can be let go – even if only temporarily. Healing ground! Sacred space!

Focusing on What’s Right and Sacred

My property, my work, my family, and my life are sacred to me. The quality of our lives is determined by understanding what we hold sacred and how whatever that is holds presence in our lives. In the end it’s all about how we stimulate and encourage the sacred to be ambient and radiant throughout our lives. In a sacred attitude we are generous, mindful, respectful, honest and compassionate. When you add Reiki or any other powerful healing intention to the mix you create a magical opportunity for transformation.

There is a tendency among energy workers/healers to hunt out and heal issues. But after all these years working with clients in all sorts of difficult health situations I know of another way that is infinitely less painful and more successful than focusing on the issues. In focusing on the health of the body, on the vitality in life, and on the inherent light that resides in all manifestations of life we empower our potential and right to health, and in turn dispel the darkness. When we embrace peace, joy, life force energy we displace and transmute stagnant energies of pain. When we surrender to the health in us and forgive ourselves for believing that we are defined by our pain and losses, we heal. When we enter deep rest we initiate deep healing. Like begets like.

Immersed in nature we learned to experience the unlimited vibration of health. We experienced first hand the indomitable spirit of never-ending growth and potential. The vibration of nature is celebratory, exultant, and pervasive. There is a well-spring of health within us that is in perfect attunement with the vitality of nature. Nature is all about surrender and acceptance of what is, when we allow ourselves to be engulfed we learn to give over our ego and meet our true spirit. And so a weekend for Reiki practitioners was born; a weekend of being supported by nature to fully experience our own innate potential to be whole and to be healed in peace.

All things in life change and eventually we left our beloved home for new adventures and other places but the Reiki Camp continues to this day on the second weekend of September. Join us to experience healing with other like-minded individuals in the presence of Nature.

A New Leaf

There comes a time when we have to make changes. I know making changes is difficult. It is the human way to become attached – to everything. But as we learn, as we grow, it is important to portray ourselves on the outside in ways that reflect the changes we are going through on the inside. My friends and clients that have known me for many years of my business journey tease me about the way my business image keeps changing every few years. It’s true…at least on the surface. Changing is what my business is all about. Whether it’s with the Reiki, the Metaphysics Workshops, the Living Well Seminars, or my articles, it’s all about helping people stimulate, create, and maintain the changes they want to manifest in their lives. Likewise for myself.

We’re all looking for happiness and peace of mind. What that means is different for each one of us. How that looks on the outside may be  different but in the end we all want the same things; we want to be heard, we want to matter, and we want to be accepted. These elements are the root of all the changes we ever try to implement in our lives. They are the essence of all that it means to be human. It is perhaps even the common purpose that binds us and in the same moment propels the evolution of humanity forward.

Gregg Braden identified the three common fears of mankind to be i) a fear of surrender, ii) a fear of loss of self-worth, and iii) a fear of abandonment. We spend our lives doing what we need to do to try to overcome these fears. We strive to leave a mark in this world that survives our death.

Change is an interesting illusion of our minds. I’m not sure that we ever really change in our core. I believe we are what we are. I also believe that we don’t always know what we are and can spend a lifetime trying to find out. We can get so side tracked in life that we can head off on a path at a very early age that can leave us lost for a long time. To make sense out of a life we feel disconnected from we buy into and build up all the trappings that make us appear to be solid citizens. Eventually that solid looking box begins to crack and disintegrate leaving us confused, angry and afraid if we continue trying to hold on to it.

Everything in our world is impermanent. Everything material and physical changes. Our physical body will also change and die. But spirit lives on. I’m not talking about reincarnation here. I’m talking about the spirit of humanity, the spirit of the Divine Principle, the spirit of God. Our essential purpose is to live that spirit as fully as possible within the expression we are.

And so we change, everyday, trying to be more fully what we are. As the days go by we either choose to do things differently, letting go of everything that no longer fits or we choose to hold on tighter, trying to create a reality that would fool the best of them. It is the heart that will guide you towards the changes you want, and your mind will decide if you do or don’t. If there is disharmony between the heart and mind you will stay locked in a battle that will seep toxicity into all areas of your life. Change doesn’t have to be cruel or harsh. If we decide to make changes freely and easily, consulting with our heart and mind, we can make smaller, incremental changes that reflect our truth, stimulate our passion and empower our presence in the world.

My new business logo and image are reflective of a new lighter, brighter sense of myself and my work. The truth is I’m all about growth, all about change, all about turning a New Leaf! More than anything though I am committed to doing what I have to do to build a harmonious relationship between my heart and my mind so all of me can go peacefully in one direction.

Fact, Faith & Superstition

So often when I introduce Reiki to someone new who’s never heard of it before, particularily men (it’s the whole left brain thing) they inform me they don’t believe in faith healing. So I tell them the facts. I tell them why Reiki doesn’t require ‘faith’ in order to work and also what the scientific world is now starting to understand about energy and the human body. Then they get on the table.

Having said that I have tremendous faith in my Reiki treatments; I trust them to work 100% of the time. I have faith that there will be change in the client’s life – even if they don’t recognize it right away. Sometimes the changes that come after a treatment are different than what the client expected or wanted to happen, but again I have faith that Reiki – Universal Life Force energy knows best. I also have faith that Reiki will continue to work for our highest good always whether we believe in it or not. And as much as all this faith sounds a bit airy fairy – my faith is based on 15 years of facts, success stories and ‘miracles’.

You see I really am a skeptical person, I have put my Reiki through the paces. It has never made sense to me to blindly trust something that could affect someone else. Further more, since I have no religious conditioning I’ve never had to have blind faith in anything in my life. Everything I’ve ever held faith in had to be proven at some point, before or later makes no difference. If I’m going to believe in something it has to hold water. So I tend to look for the leaks in theories, ideas, people, friendships, stories etc. of course this also extends to my Reiki/Healing/ teaching work. Some leaks can be easily fixed and are worth the effort, other leaks require a complete tear down and start over.

All the work that I do is prone to superstitious undertones. Reiki, tarot cards, meditation, metaphysics, positive thinking etc. Superstitious ideas like ‘healer’s can’t work on themselves’, or ‘ Reiki is witchcraft?’, ‘don’t ask for healing/abundance for yourself’ are taking decades to work their way out of human consciousness. And the new age has also brought a few strange ideas to the table for instance, the other day I met a lady who almost did a backflip trying to erase the word ‘fear’ out of the energy field around us when I suggested that our freedom is governed by our fears, She felt that just saying ‘fear’ would attract fear to her. Very bizarre. She had fear for the word fear…hmm, what’s wrong with this picture. I systematically avoid all superstitious belief systems and rituals based in superstition. My work is for the real world, grounded in facts, with real results.

I have a couple things though I am superstitious about. 1. I always pick up pennies, and if I sweep one up off the floor at home I don’t throw it out with the rest of the dirt. Because superstitiously I believe if I don’t pick it up I am throwing away good fortune.  2. I never throw out any cards, notes, or letters that have been signed with Love; again I don’t want to throw wishes of love away. 3. I have never thrown a book out in my entire life; I won’t throw knowledge or words away. Hmmm… maybe I’m just a packrat?….nah!
